Are you attempting to launch the game through the Itchio application? If so, the issue is out of our hands. Please try to download the game through the website itself instead.
I brought the Please Duology on Steam, so Please Follow starts at 9:49
Really great games, loved the visuals, I was really confused while playing the game, I felt like it was a massive metaphorical game where everything had a really deep meaning, and I did not get any of it. Read all of the notes at the end, and make a lot of sense. I wish I read them while playing and would have made some of the moments a lot more impactful. Still they were really fun and were worth the playthrough.
Only realised after playing the game, that you are the developer behind ‘It Came From Within’ . It's looking great, definitely grabbing a copy on release.
A nice short horror game with an excellent creepy atmosphere. The puzzles are pretty easy (I beat the entire game in 20~ minutes on a casual stream) but it's worth checking out if you like this style of horror game.
Please Follow is a Walking Simulator with light Puzzles. You are a presumed soldier patrolling the trenches. While patrolling, you came across a tunnel. Fearing this may be dug by the Enemy, you set your mind to explore it.
Presentation
Please Follow is a simple game that is about following. Jokes aside, there isn't much to elaborate on the gameplay. You start following the tunnel down into Earth. Coming across what looks like growths on the walls of the tunnel. Interacting with it gives you the only bit of narrative, consists of two sentences, phrase differently from one or another. And there is more than one. Unfortunately, it's shaky and can't be paused. After that, puzzles become the main focus. Puzzles are mainly of "bring X to Y" nature. What are X? Worms. Please Follow used worms as a form of an offering to an undisclosed God or entity. It doesn't go far with it, and I'm speaking (mostly) conjecturally on my part in the following.
I see a fair bit of similarities between Please Follow and the unlikely story, the Terror from the Depths {pub. 1976} by Fritz Leiber (which I recently finished reading a couple of weeks back. Check it out.) Both feature a worm-like entity. The worm, as a gravitational hypnotic effect on both characters. The most damnable parallel is the appearance of the Please Follow's worm, which has wings. Yet, both take the worm in different directions. If only Please Follow's narrative was less cryptic. Not saying a cryptic nature is wrong, but Cosmic Horror relies on subtleness and hints. Visually, it's excellent, an PlayStation One era graphics. While I made the issue, with the narrative-on-a-screen, it works well with the war setting. For a short game {clocking in at twenty minutes long} there is a sense of scale, not just on the surface, but underneath in chthonic depths. The final extension of the chamber opens into space with stars sparkling with light. It could be minerals reflecting, who knows. It gets psychedelic at times, and annoyingly, a spinning pyramid for meme sake. The sound design is atmospheric. It has moments of shock and grotesque, and the perspective of the soldier, we do hear them crying in one scene inconclusive what it may represent.
It represents the traumas of war.
They saw something beyond their comprehension and proceed to have a mental breakdown.
Likely number two, as collective scenes are going. Or I could be ignoring the underlining meaning it is nudging at. PTSD. Admittedly, this isn't my area of expertise. I'll leave it to someone else in the field.
Collapsing Cosmoes
Please Follow is a cryptic journey of the depths, aren't much like it. The world is captivating as it's store description. While it is very little to analysis, a spelunker will find a mystery to unravel. National Intelligence requires your help to solve the Terror from the Depths...
Damn this was great! Really well made all around, but I especially love the sound design. Usually not a fan of how obscure the story is in a lot of horror indie games, but here it really works. Can't wait to play more of you stuff!
Another great game by somewhat. I really enjoyed the experience from this one and how I could never guess where it was going. I played it for my Bloodcurdling Barrage in which I post daily videos for all of October. Please is my favorite project of yours so I was very excited for this one and it lived up to the hype.
Hey! Coozie! Always a pleasure to watch you play my games, as usual. I'm glad you stuck around to play the sequel, too. Love the editing you did, especially the ending, making it more abrupt than I originally made it. It adds to the surrealness of it all.
I really liked that. It gave me strong "Hellraiser II" vibes with the stone and crystaline shapes, but especially once I saw the "wants to be filled" obelisks. Lol
The pseudo PS1 styled glitchy texture/polygon aspect to the graphics also worked to great effect, as I could never quite tell how close or how far I was moving with respect to other things.
Thank you very much for the very flattering comparison. There is a thin line between sex and death and horror, isn't it? Glad to see I threaded that line successfully!
You're very welcome. I've been considering what a game based on my most memorable nightmares might be like, and your game gave me a little insight into that design process. I also liked your use of uncomfortable stock footage. lol
I love low poly, and I like what you've done here, but it would be nice to have more *of* it. Lots of potential. Hope you keep plugging away at things. You've got some talent.
Thank you very much for the comment and for taking the time to play! My next project might be a long ways off, unfortunately, but I hope it'll meet expectations.
I really don't know what to say, i'm speechless, this is a work of art, a disgusting, disturbing, scary, work of art. Rarely felt so uneased in my life. I loved all your games that I played, but this is the best of them. I feel like it messed with my mind and the way I see things. Loved it
Wow, thank you for the hyperbolic praise. I don't know how to reply to that, other than I hope I can follow up with more titles that can provide the same level of enjoyment. Thank you very much for playing.
Any known issues with Please Follow crashing in Windows 10 64 Bit? I've tried several different compatibility modes, graphics settings, and even Run As Administrator, but all attempts get the same result: the game sits at the "Loading" screen for several seconds and then Windows' usual "Please Follow has stopped working" pops up and the game closes. Would love any advice.
The game was compiled on Windows 10, so I don't know what to suggest to make it work, unfortunately. Perhaps, if you have an antivirus, try disabling it when launching the game to see if it changes anything. Unity is known to not play nice with every AV out there.
Wow, that was a bizarre experience and I loved it! Gave me chills and made me feel very uneasy at times, in a good way of course.:) I also adore the aesthetics all together, from the graphics to the sound and everything in between. I'll definitely be looking out for more somewhat games in the future.
Thank you so much for the comments! If you've acquired Please Follow from the Racial Justice & Equality bundle, know that the prequel/sequel/alternate timeline Please is also available to you right now, if you are looking for another experience set in the same universe.
If David Cronenberg directed the final sequences of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Like doormatz a couple of months ago, I definitely saw elements of Please in there. The description speaks of "the offical timeline", so presumably this is similar to but not exactly what led to the events of that game.
Thank you for a unique experience, and the ability to play it on Linux. Well done. The only thing I would ask for is a way to alter the field of view. I'd rather feel queasy due to your efforts, not my motion sickness.
Duly noted for the FOV. My games lack a lot of user/QOL options, because...well...they're hard to implement (sorry, lone dev here)! But I am very happy to read your analysis of the contents of the game, looks like I communicated my intentions very well. Thank you very much for playing.
It is! ...and it isn't. My personal mythos for the Please universe is getting convoluted, but Please Follow happens before the events of Please, so your feeling was right on the money!
Finally sat down and watched it. Thank you so much for playing, and for the many compliments! I am excited to learn you're getting into game dev yourself, I wish you the best for this new endeavour and will be playing whatever you publish!
Trippy, nasty, creepy, and overall very enjoyable. It felt like I was descending further and further into madness itself. 10/10 would play again! Here's my playthrough:
That was an interesting watch, for sure. For your own curiosity, there is actually a little more to the game. There is a total of six possible visions, and they are obtained ramdomly, so if you go through the game again, you might just see something else.
Thank you for taking the time to play, and to share this on here! :)
A lot more abstract and psychological than the previous game. Feels like a very disturbing journey of the mind, and that is no means a complaint. It's interesting to play a game that feels more grandiose, until the body horror kicks in of course.
Would it surprise you to learn that I've never played System Shock 2? Although the limitations of making a game in the PS1-Style probably makes it that some texturing/modeling techniques overlap with other games of the era.
You definetely gotta play that masterpiece, then! The creatures in your games (Please and Please Follow) are not only visually resemble the ones from System Shock 2, but their whole demeanor and communication are also shockingly similar!
P.S. Didn't mean to offend you - your world has it's own unique touch)

No worries, no offense taken. I realize System Shock 1 & 2 are lacking in my personal video game culture. I didn't really own a PC at the time of the games releases, so I missed out on them, and it just never occurred to me to revisit them later in life. I definitely need to get to them, though, I agree.
I'm sorry to see you haven't enjoyed your time with the game. You were a good sport about it, all things considered. I make very stylized, very divisive games, and they all contain some form of abstract imagery, so there is always the distinct possibility that they won't be enjoyed by everybody out there. Still, thank you for putting the time and trying out one of my creations!
I got to say the whole idea of having the visions you see be randomly chosen so each play-through you might see something a bit different is really awesome.
Very interesting game! Can't say I understood it - something about death, and feeding it? But it came together very nicely. Love the crisp audio and twitchy low poly graphics. Keep up the great work!
I am guessing this is plays in the same world as Please/ or in a alternate version of that world, which is why you choose this name.
The little Puzzles were really nice, it took me a bit to understand the last one (I am not the brightest). But they were fun.
I could go on about how I love the graphic style of this, but that is someting I love in all your works. This oldish graphic look always gets me, no matter what kind of game.
In games like this it works even better, it gives a bit room for fantasy how things would look in reality or what we are even seeing an the brain likes to make that creepy.
In conclusion:
Another great and interesting experience by somewhat.
I am really looking forward to whatever other things you will bless us with in the future!
Thank you very much for leaving your impressions of the game! :) You are right, in that it takes place inside the 'Please Universe' (I didn't think of a name for it yet), and I agree that low-poly graphics allow for the player to fill in the blanks with their imagination. I'm sticking with that style for the foreseeable future, too.
I hope whatever comes next will be as fun to play for you!
You are right on more than a few details, as usual. Although it is not explicitly here, Please Follow is of course taking place in the same narrative universe as Please, although it's some sort of prequel / alternate world.
Also, the visions you see are not predetermined by any player action (although you made me realize I could have gone way deeper into all that secret stuff), but you get a selection of three visions every time you play. Some are bound to be repeated more often than others, because of Unity's not-so-random randomizer.

I HATE CREEPY GAMES...but I love a good puzzle...Great job mixing both!!!!

That's the intended effect. Glad the game works to its fullest intent!

Can't blame you, it's a neat little interaction!
I'm glad you played, and you found a little joy in this fictional hellscape.

This was very eerie and creative. Great Job devs.
Hey, thank you for playing! It was fun watching you go through all the weirdness, your reactions are very entertaining. Keep up the good work! :)
Amazing. Beautiful. No need for more words... Be honest, somewhat, you got inspired by The Many from System Shock 2?

NO! NO! I did enjoy the game... It was just weird and I like weird but the game just got me confused trying to process the acid trip that is the game.
No worries, no harm done. I enjoyed watching your let's play. And yeah, I guess it is weird. It's just...I like weird. XD
I JUST WANT TO BUY THE BUNDLE WITH MY CREDIT CARD AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
There isn't much I can do on my end. But you should be able to set up either a credit card or Paypal account support in your Itch io account settings.
Maybe I just need to wait for the bundle to expire.
Please try again, I made an account with another payment provider, and it might fix the issue for you.
It worked! Thank you!
I got to say the whole idea of having the visions you see be randomly chosen so each play-through you might see something a bit different is really awesome.
Thank you. I had more visions planned originally, but you gotta know when to stop working on something, right? XD
Very interesting game! Can't say I understood it - something about death, and feeding it? But it came together very nicely. Love the crisp audio and twitchy low poly graphics. Keep up the great work!
PS. Great game to play at 1 AM
A great game to play at 1am? This comment makes me happier than you can imagine. I'm all about that late-night entertainment life!
🔥It was lit! 🔥Shoutout to somewhat for sending me the game. Thanks so much. Watch it here!!!

Cool experience. Ran fine on Linux. Thanks
Thank you for playing, and leaving kind words, and confirming it works well on Linux. So yeah, thanks for everything! :)
